Supporting problem-based learning in groups in a net environment

چکیده
Since 1996 the Communication Studies programme at Roskilde University (Denmark) has been offered as distance education. During the four years, we have improved our means to achieve a functioning CSCL pedagogy, developing from initially a somewhat naïve translation of face-to-face and group organized PBL to an online context, into a now rather reflected CSCL learning concept, with intensive facilitator/supervisor involvement. In this paper we seek to identify ways of supporting PBL in groups in a net environment. This exercise is based upon four years of continually refining the conversion of pedagogical principles from face-toface teaching at Roskilde University to Open University activities using WWW technology. In this process we have been looking for a software concept that could help implement our ideas by supporting students and teachers in their efforts. While smart technologies may make it easier to transfer messages of all kinds (including multimedia components) and to co-operate on distance, pedagogical insights and competencies cannot easily be Page 1 of 18 Supporting Problem-based Learning in Groups in a Net Environment 08-04-2005 http://akira.ruc.dk/~robin/pubs/CSCL99.html

Optimal Placement of Capacitor Banks Using a New Modified Version of Teaching-Learning- Based Optimization Algorithm
Meta-heuristics optimization methods are important techniques for optimal design of the engineering systems. Numerous methods, inspired by different nature phenomena, have been introduced in the literature. A new modified version of Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) Algorithm is introduced in this paper. TLBO, as a parameter free algorithm, is based on the learning procedure of studen...
متن کاملProblem-based Learning in Nursing Education: A Review Article
Introduction: Public health services system needs nurses with problem solving and critical thinking skills. Thus, teaching methods must be applied to nurture these skills in students. This issue has led to attention toward Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in nursing. This study was done to investigate the effect of PBL in nursing through reviewing the related literature. Methods: Using the key wo...
متن کاملProblem Based Learning or Lecture, A New Method of Teaching Biology to First Year Medical Students: An Experience
Introduction. In the previous studies in the field of medical education, problem based learning and lecture based learning have been compared, but, due to the learning habits of Iranian students and special condition of education, the effects of these two methods have been less investigated in Iranian universities so far. This study attempts to compare the effects of these two methods on studen...
متن کاملScaffolding: A way for supporting learners in e-learning environments
Introduction: One of the effective ways to help learners improve their learning in learning environments is scaffolding. Scaffolding can be defined as teachers, other learners and resources support of learner on tasks that can’t be done alone. Experts strongly demand scaffolding to be used to help learners on abstractive and complex issues. The aim of this study is to examine the scaffoldi...
متن کاملConstructing basic science theoretical curriculum evaluation tool, based on Problem-based strategy (A guide for application).
Introduction: A variety of educational strategies appropriate for medical student learning have been introduced. Problem- based learning is a major, complex and widespread strategy in medical education, especially in basic science education. In the SPICES model PBL is presented as continuums (from information oriented learning to problem-based learning). In this study, we developed a questionna...
